ABOUT ME

Nurfadhilah is a graduate (Class of 2014) of the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Master of Arts in Applied Psychology (Counselling), with degree in Human Sciences (Psychology, minor in Islamic Revealed Knowledge) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Nurfadhilah is also an alumni of Madrasah Wak Tanjong Al-Islamiah. She is a certified religious teacher under the Asatizah Recognition Scheme (ARS), and is able to implement religious guidance and insights into counselling.

 

For the past fifteen years, Nurfadhilah has been working with children, youth, and adults through various settings including hospital (IMH), social services, and madrasahs. Nurfadhilah synthesizes the Islamic and modern sciences approach of counselling psychology to bring about a better understanding of her clients' needs, and to formulate and plan effective intervention.

 

Nurfadhilah hopes to be an inspiring Muslim psychologist, dutiful daughter, respectful wife, resourceful mother, and an empathic sister to everyone around her.

 

 

Past Employment Experience:

 

  • Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) (Apr 2009-Sept 2009): Formerly named the Disbursement and Empowerment Strategic Unit, Nurfadhilah was tasked to assess walk-in clients' eligibility for Zakat assistance. Through gathering of data from an interview, she had to write a report and recommend quantum for disbursement to assist the clients. 

  • Institute of Mental Hospital (IMH) (Sept 2009-Sept 2010): Nurfadhilah was given the role to monitor patients' response to treatment in an Acute General Psychiatric Ward. She helped to formulate and develop management plan, with a multi-disciplinary team consisted of psychiatrists, nurses, pharmacists, and medical social workers mainly. She also psychoeducated patients and their family members on mental illness, medication compliance, its side effects, signs of relapse, and provided supportive counselling to them. It was during this period that she was offered the opportunity to further her Master of Arts in Applied Psychology at NTU.  

 

  • Simei Care Centre (SCC) (Jan 2011-Jul 2011): Nurfadhilah believes in continuous learning and applying what she has learnt. During her Master programme, she did her internship at SCC as a trainee Psychologist. SCC is a rehabilitation centre for those who are diagnosed with mental illness. She opted to do her internship here so as to apply her previous working experience and new skills learnt to provide psychological intervention to the residents in SCC. She felt satisfied to journey with them in their road to recovery. She also managed to meet her ex-patients and supported them emotionally whilst interning there.

  • Muhammadiyah Welfare Home (MWH) (Jul 2011-Nov 2011): Her second internship experience was at MWH. Here, she began to conduct individual and group counselling to children and youths who had history of delinquencies. Although it was a challenge to build rapport with the male residents initially, she managed to gain their acceptance through continuous engagement in their daily routine.

  • Malay Youth Literary Association (4PM) (Mar 2012-Jul 2015): Nurfadhilah continued working in a Malay Youth Literary Association (4PM) as she juggled to complete her dissertation for Master programme. As a Counsellor, Nurfadhilah provided casework management and counselling to children, youths and their families, under the Enhanced Step-Up Programme which was funded by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF). The programme enabled youths to be engaged meaningfully as they have been absent from school for certain period of time. Most of the cases that Nurfadhilah counselled were closed successfully, and some of the clients are still in good contact with her.
